Het bedrijf, een smederij en ketelmakerij met een stoomwerktuig van 6 PK, begon in 1892 aan de Vest 8, kadaster sectie G no. 1494, toen nog met drie vennoten, D. Huiskens, W. van Dijk en D. Hofwegen. 4 juni 1892 werd de vergunning hiertoe verleend. Het bedrijf groeide harder dan verwacht en timmerden vooral aan de weg met stoommachines en de daartoe behorende ketels. Een paar jaar later huren ze van de Gemeente een strook grond van 48 M² langs de noordzijde van de panden Vest 2 en 4, deel uitmakend van de openbare losplaats tussen Vest en Riedijkshaven. In 1898 weten de heren Huiskens en van Dijk de hand te leggen op een stuk grond van 1155 M² naast het Bureau der Gemeentewerken aan het Kromhout wat had toebehoord aan de dames De Groot. Er was voor de afslag daarvan aan de Gemeente een vergunning verleend voor een bedrag f 16.100,00 om daarop af te mijnen. Huiskens en van Dijk kwamen voor f 16.125,00 in bezit van de voor de Gemeente zo belangrijke grond. Maar de heren Huiskens en van Dijk waren de beroerdste niet en stelden voor deze grond aan het Kromhout niet in eigendom te nemen mits zij in plaats daarvan de beschikking krijgen over de grond gelegen tussen de Lijnbaan en het Wantij, sectie C 3637 en onlangs door de heer A. Roest aangekocht van de firma Dorsser & Co. in liquidatie met de bedoeling daar een petroleumbergplaats in te richten. Naast deze grond wilden de heren Huiskens en van Dijk ook nog een bedrag van f 2500,00 voor de kosten van ophoging etc. Ze wilden ook niets met overdrachtskosten te maken hebben. Het terrein was totaal 2790 M², waarvan 285 M² water. De heer Roest wilde meewerken en vroeg f 12.795,00. Dus met ca f 200,00 aan kosten daar bovenop samen met de f 2500,00 ophoogkosten kreeg de Gemeente haar zo gewenste stukje grond voor ca f 15.495,00. De Gemeente kon uitbreiden aan het Kromhout en de heren Huiskens en van Dijk hadden hun werf aan de Lijnbaan/Wantij. Opmerkelijk hoe dat gelopen is. Permissie voor een bedrag van f 16.100,00 en daarmee dan ook de plank muis geslagen en het dan toch nog uiteindelijk voor f 15.495,00 naar binnen harken. Hier stop ik met maar met het verzamelen van data nu we op de Lijnbaan beland zijn :)
Rond de twintiger jaren van de vorige eeuw zijn op deze werf een aantal kleine zeeschepen gebouwd voor Zweden. Ca. 1925/1926 is deze werf opgehouden met bestaan. Bij vergroting van de foto zien we duidelijk de naast Huiskens & van Dijk gelegen Scheepswerf van H.J. Koopman en het veer Dordrecht-Papendrecht. Indien de foto vanaf het terrein van Hoebée genomen zou zijn dan had op de voorgrond de kolenbaan van de centrale aan de Noorderdijk zichtbaar moeten zijn. Deze kolenbaan is op andere foto's van de beeldbank wel zichtbaar.
